Overall Class Reflection

English 110 with Professor Ward was a wonderful experience. I have a new appreciation for writing and have learned not only on how to write better, but also about myself. The in-class workshops exposed me to techniques that helped me revise my work in a more efficient way. Most importantly, I am glad that I was surrounded with writers who were far better than me because that really motivated me to put forth genuine effort in making my work stellar. One thing that I must admit is that, even though I was shown the “proper” writing process method, I never …

Exploratory Essay Reflection

The definition essay was a by far the most challenging assignment I had to do. I was initially confused because I did not know how to approach this. I believe since the assignment was so open ended, the writer could have taken any approach. I don’t think I ever had this much freedom, so it was difficult to find an interesting word that would be worth writing an extensive paper. I chose to explore the word “hate speech.” I came across the notion of free speech while I was watching the legendary political commentator Ben Shapiro, who destroys people with …

Revised Exploratory Essay

……The principle of free speech is of the essence in any free self-governed society. Through our words we can have meaningful discourse and act as productive members in our communities by expressing our thoughts to one another. Today when we look around America, we see a nation that has never been polarized to such a great extent. Our rhetoric has changed to adapt to the current environment. As a result of this political correctness atmosphere, “hate speech” is one product that appears to gain momentum in our lives. It is worth pondering what really is “hate speech”? To ameliorate our …

Argumentative Essay Refection

I chose to address Senator Sanders’ Medicare For All bill by writing to New York Senator Kristin Gillibrand. For the most part, everyone wants to have affordable and accessible healthcare, but the method to approach it is where we get friction. During my research process, I had an epiphany. I was going through my daily feed from the Associated Press and came across an article that emphasized how the number of primary care physicians are decreasing. This sparked my interest on our current state of healthcare. Most importantly, one of my long-term goals is to become a physician-scientist, so I …

Revised Argumentative Essay

Dear Senator Gillibrand:   I am an honors pre-med student at the City College of New York who enjoys keeping up with politics. As you know, ever since Roosevelt’s New Deal, the American government has been heavily involved in ameliorating the lives of its citizens; however, healthcare is one aspect of social welfare that the government has struggled to prosper in, as evidenced by the 30 million uninsured citizens and high premiums. The Affordable Care Act is the most recent attempt to address this problem, and I agree with you that this reform has been effective at increasing coverage for …

Narrative Reflection

……..I initially wrote about my first day at City College, but after receiving my peers’ feedback I realized that I had failed to convey a “narrative” that incorporates the different aspects of a plot (conflict, rising action, resolution, etc.) I went back to the drawing board and brainstormed of something else: a tragedy. It basically revolved around two lovers, Ralph and Benazir, and how they needed the help of Ralph’s disgruntled father, who actually loved his son, but put him through an unreasonable ordeal. I was inspired to have a romantic vibe to my narrative after reading one of my …

Revised Narrative Essay

Ralph struggled to hold the grip of his steering wheel as he drove towards his parents’ house. Thoughts of how he would break the news to his father kept him up throughout the previous night. The wipers were constantly oscillating, but the rain rushed towards the windshield like shooting stars. He interlocked his green eyes for a moment with Benazir, who was in the passenger seat, and gained a surge of confidence that would ultimately help him muster the courage to tell his father about his profound love for her. He thought he had experienced natural beauty when he visited …

Ralph struggled to hold the grip of his steering wheel as he drove towards his parents’ mansion. Thoughts of how he would break the news to his casino magnate father, who was featured annually in Forbes Magazine, kept him up throughout the previous night. He interlocked his green eyes for a moment with Benazir, who was in the passenger seat, and gained a surge of confidence that would ultimately help him muster the courage to tell his father about his profound love for her.
